PRELIMINARY OF THE MODEL “WOMEN PARTICIPATE IN CLASSIFICATION, COLLECTION AND RECYCLING OF PLASTIC WASTE” IN NAM TU LIEM DISTRICT

On the afternoon of November 30, 2022, the Center for Environment and Community Research (CECR), the Women’s Union and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Nam Tu Liem District held a preliminary workshop program of the model “Women participate in the classification, collection and recycling of plastic waste” in Nam Tu Liem district. This is an activity within the framework of the project “Advancing Solutions to Plastic Pollution through Inclusive Recycling” sponsored by the Ocean Conservancy.

The preliminary workshop had the participation of 150 delegates including Leaders of the People’s Committee, Leaders of the Women’s Union of 3 Wards, leaders and officers of CECR, environmental experts, and residential communities.

The model started in August 2022 has achieved positive results:

+ 18 tons of low value plastic waste collected

+ 9,000 households in 3 wards participate in the model

+ 300 female scrap collectors and women’s union members were trained and propagated.

During the preliminary workshop, the report on the results of the implementation and the subsequent implementation plan of the model in 3 wards were shared with the delegates. Members of residential groups in 3 wards who are implementing the model shared the difficulties and advantages of implementing the model in residential groups.
