TRAINING PROGRAM FOR THE CORE GROUPS AND SCRAP COLLECTORS ON WASTE CLASSIFICATION AND COLLECTION IN NAM TU LIEM DISTRICT

Today, October 6, 2022, at the People’s Committee of My Dinh 1 ward, the Women’s Union of Nam Tu Liem district in collaboration with the Center for Environment and Community Research (CECR) organized the Training program for the core groups and scrap collectors on the model of low-value plastic waste classification, collection, and recycling” in Nam Tu Liem district. This is an activity within the framework of the project “Advancing Solutions to Plastic Pollution through Inclusive Recycling (ASPPIRe)” sponsored by the Ocean Conservancy.

Attending the program were Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Anh – Vice President of the Women’s Union of Nam Tu Liem District,  Mrs. Dao Thi Hong Le – Deputy Head of Department Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Nam Tu Liem District; Ms. Dao Thi Ngoc Anh – Deputy Director of CECR, and the business experts have accompanied the model: Lagom Company, VietCycle Company. Especially the attendance of more than 120 delegates who are representatives of unions of residential groups in 3 wards: Me Tri, My Dinh 1, and My Dinh 2; and the Female Scrap Collector Supporting Club.

The training program is organized not only to raise awareness about plastic waste management and the harmful effects of plastic waste and non-biodegradable plastic bags on the environment but also to develop an implementation plan of the model “Women pioneer in waste classification” in residential groups of 3 wards (Me Tri, My Dinh 1, My Dinh 2)  in phase 2 of the project, guide the core groups and scrap collectors to collect all kinds of plastic waste, and discuss solutions to increase the efficiency of plastic waste classification, collection, reuse, and recycling.

Presenting at the program, Ms. Do Thi Huyen, an environmental expert, shared her knowledge of plastic waste pollution and state policies related to the circular economy and the Law on Environmental Protection 2020. After the presentation of Ms. Huyen, the delegates participated in a lively Q&A game and received many meaningful gifts from CECR.

Continuing the program, Ms. Doan Bao Han, CECR’s project officer, introduced the “Model of Women Pioneer in plastic waste classification, collection, and recycling” and shared a video on how to handle, clean, and classify waste at source.

As project partners, representatives of Lagom Company and VietCycle Company also contributed a presentation about their company’s waste collection and treatment process.

At the end of the program, the participants were guided by Ms. Duong Thi To, an expert of CECR, to record, classify and collect waste to implement the model.
