WORKSHOP SHARING RESEARCH RESULTS ON THE TASKS OF THE “PREVENTING WATER POLLUTION AT THE THO QUANG FISHING PORT” COMPONENT

On the afternoon of August 11, 2022, the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment held a “Workshop sharing research results on the tasks of the Prevent water pollution at the Tho Quang fishing port component”. The component is a part of the project “Collective Actions for Water Conservation” funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with the Center for Environment and Community Research (CECR) as the coordinating agency. 

The workshop took place at the Administration Center of Da Nang city. At the workshop, chaired by the Leaders of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, 2 units, the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring and the Information Technology Center for Natural Resources and Environment, presented 3 reports, including Assessment of pollution status, functions, and tasks of management agencies and units, and proposing solutions and models to enhance the effectiveness of environmental pollution treatment in Tho Quang fish ports; Suitable communication programs for the subjects at Tho Quang fishing port; Database system building and tools to support the management, monitoring, and disclosure of information on the environment, supporting the community to participate in environmental protection at Tho Quang fishing port.

The workshop had the participation of experts, organizations, and units related to the project and Tho Quang fishing port, such as the Center for Environment and Community Research (CECR); Department of Information and Communications; Department of Transportation; Department of Construction; City Police; Management Board of Hi-tech Parks and Industrial Parks; Construction Management Board of Agriculture and Rural Development projects; Command of the City Border Guard; People’s Committee of Tho Quang Ward; People’s Committee of Nai Hien Dong Ward; Da Nang Microchip Center; Mr. Huynh Van Thang – Association for Protection of Natural Resources and Environment; Mr. Thai Van Quang – City Union of Science and Technology Associations; Dr. Kieu Thi Kinh – Da Nang University of Education; MSc. Phan Thi Hien – Association for Protection of Natural Resources and Environment; Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; People’s Committee of Son Tra District; Management Board of Tho Quang fishing port. 

At the beginning of the workshop, representatives of the 2 units presented reports on the results achieved in the past time at Tho Quang fishing port. The 3 reports have shown a close connection, supporting each other, forming an overall picture for the goal of contributing to solving pollution at Tho Quang fishing port. According to the assessment of the leaders of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the presented initiative results play an extremely important role in contributing to the effective implementation of the city’s Decision 2375 on the Environmental pollution treatment plan at the Tho Quang fishing port area, Da Nang city, period 2020-2025. 

After the presentation of the report, there was a discussion and suggestions of experts and units. From the facts in the process of researching and working, the parties have made extremely practical and diverse contributions to the completion of the studies’ content. 

At the end of the workshop, the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring and the Information Technology Center for Natural Resources and Environment will continue to rely on the direction of the leaders of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the opinions of experts, and other relevant organizations to revise the report’s contents and implement the next steps. Specifically, for the proposed content of “Suitable communication programs for the subjects at Tho Quang fishing port”, based on the revised content of the report, CECR will work with local partners to start implementing communication programs and environmental protection models at Tho Quang fishing port. For the content “Assessment of pollution status, functions, and tasks of management agencies and units, and proposing solutions and models to enhance the effectiveness of environmental pollution treatment in Tho Quang fish ports” and “Database system building and tools to support the management, monitoring, and disclosure of information on the environment, supporting the community to participate in environmental protection at Tho Quang fishing port”, the units will continue to adjust and implement the next activities to achieve the set goals of the project.
