On February 17, the Center for Environment and Community Research (CECR) held a talkshow with a topic “Environmental management in Vietnam”. We are honored to have an open conversation with Ms. Le Thi Minh Anh from Department of Policy, Legal Affairs and Inspection – Environment Directorate) about changes and updates in environmental management policy nowadays.
Through a detailed presentation, the expert pointed out the main parts in the process of amending, supplementing, and promulgating Environmental Protection Law from 1993 to 2020. This helps our officials have an overview of the socio – economic movement’s impact on environmental regulations. Also, Ms. Minh Anh clearly explained the system of legal documents related to environmental issues, thereby clarifying new regulations in the Environmental Protection Law 2020 and relevant Decress along with Circulars. According to her, current environmental regulations has inherited a lot from international experience, for example, the Environmental Protection Law 2020 recognizes community as a subject in protecting the environment for the first time. Besides that, the law also sets criteria for environmental impact assessment, implements the circular economy, and adjusts with climate change.
The talk show received the enthusiastic contributions from our officials in asking many insightful questions and creating an atmosphere of a frank and highly inquisitive discussion, which deepened the topic issues. At the end of the talk, CECR’s team members and Ms. Minh Anh reviewed the knowledge gained by joining in a mini-game, answering interesting questions and receiving impressive gifts.
