On October 7, 2022, the Da Nang Institute for Socio-Economic Development Research (Institute) in collaboration with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang city, the Center for Environment and Community Research (CECR) organized the Workshop on “Result Announcement of Application and Transfer of District-level set of environmental indicators”. The set of indicators are one of the initiatives of the Project “Collective Action on Water Conservation (CAWACON)” implemented by CECR in cooperation with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang city, under the Local Work Program sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The workshop was attended by the sponsor’s representative, Mr. Nguyen Duc Duong – USAID’s Local Work Program Manager in Vietnam, chaired by Mr. Vo Nguyen Chuong – Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang city, and more than 40 delegates representing stakeholders from agencies and units of the city; Department of Natural Resources and Environment of districts; People’s Committees of wards/communes tested the set of indicators; and related organizations and individuals.

Dr. Huynh Huy Hoa – Director of Da Nang Institute for Socio-Economic Development Research, Head of the research team had a shared article to summarize the research process and results of building the set of indicators; results of survey, analysis, and evaluation of the effectiveness of testing the application of the district-level set of environmental indicators; proposal of the set of indicators with instructions for use (complete version). Through that, the set of indicators have received comments from leading experts such as Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dang Ngoc Dinh, Former Director of the Institute of Science and Technology Strategy and Policy, Ministry of Science and Technology; Mr. Thai Van Quang, Representative of Da Nang Union of Science and Technology Associations, as well as the questions and comments of all delegates in the general discussion, which was moderated by Mr. Vo Nguyen Chuong – Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang city.
At the end of the workshop, the Da Nang Institute for Socio-Economic Development Research will continue to adjust according to the comments in the workshop, completing the set of indicators and questionnaire. From there, the product will be handed over to the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment for reports and proposals to the People’s Committee of Da Nang city to pilot a set of indicators across the city in the next year, aiming to become an annual set of indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental management and protection throughout Da Nang city.
