In response to World Water Day 2015 "Water is the core of sustainable development"

nuoc-the-gioi-2015In response to the World Water Day 2015 “Water is the core of sustainable development”, Center for Environment and Community Research, Hanoi Lakes Club, Coalition for Clean Water, Center for Environmental Training and Communication (Vietnam Environment Administration), the US Embassy in Vietnam, Standard Chartered Bank and the Women Union of Ngoc Khanh ward have co-hosted an event with media message “Join hands to protect Hanoi lakes: Stop immediately lake polluting activities”, to raise awareness and change the behavior of environmental protection in general and water resources protection in particular in the community.

The event took place on the morning of 22.03.2015 at Ngoc Khanh Lake with the contents: celebrating of World Water Day, launching the Month of Action for Hanoi lakes (22/03/2015 – 22/04/2015), cleaning the surrounding area of Ngoc Khanh lake, cycling for lakes in Hanoi and other communication activities. The event attracted over 300 participants including local people, volunteers from Hanoi Lake Club, officials of Standard Chartered Bank in Vietnam, students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Natural resources and Environment, the Association of Vietnamese Youth Development …

Sharing about World Water Day, Mr. Truong Manh Tien – President of Hanoi Lake Club said: “We have been aware of the importance of water resources for human life and all living creatures on Earth – the only planet with life currently exists. However, specific actions to protect and preserve the purity of the water sources are not adequate. Let’s protect the environment today! Environmental protection is a volunteer for the Earth. Protection of water resources is a priority- water is the source of life “.
The event in response to World Water Day this year is also the opening activity for the  Month of action to protect Hanoi’s lakes, called for the immediately stop of water sources polluting activities, from World Water Day (22/03/2015) to Earth Day (22/04/2015). In this month, many lake cleaning and propaganda activities to raise awareness will be implemented in localities like Ward Lake, Ngoc Khanh, Lien and Quang An, Kim Ma …. by the Women’s Union, Veterans Association, local youth and volunteer students.
