Project : “Preserving Heritage – Protecting Future: Towards Sustainable Protection of Ha Noi Lake System with the Community Participation”

Project : “Preserving Heritage – Protecting Future: Towards Sustainable Protection of Ha Noi Lake System with the Community Participation” was proposed based on above thinking.  It will contribute to environmental improvement of Hanoi Lakes and as a gift to  celebration of 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi. Main objective of this project is to provide comprehensive picture of lakes, ponds, marshes in six districts, both in terms of members and quality. The picture create information foundation, tools for communities, planners, scientists to study and implement innovative ideas to protect lakes, prevent the current and future risks faced by these bodies of water and aquatic ecosystems due to modernization and climate change. This is considered as a starting point and basis for development of longer concret action plan to engage and mobilize relevant communities in protection and monitoring of Ha Noi lakes.
The project include 2 part:

  • Build a State of Art baseline data for Hanoi lakes in its six old districts: Hoan Kiem, Dong Da, Hai Ba Trung, Cau Giay, and Tay Ho. Background information for each lake include: address, area, profile of communities around the lake, environmental assessment and conditions of lakes’ corridors, basic water quality parameters, determine the risks they face, and suggestive recommendations for future activities.
  •  An institutional research management of Hanoi lake system to get in depth understanding of management mechanisms of lakes in Hanoi today, on that basis determine the difficulties, challenges and opportunities for protection Lake using ecological approach and community participation as well as propose recommendations on the action plan 2011 – 2020 for  lake protection.
