Workshop on "Water Pollution and Impact on Health – Economy: Policy Perspective"

o-nhiem-nuoc-skIn the morning of 11.22.2014, in Hanoi, Coalition for Clean Water, Center for Environment and Community Research, Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, jointly organized a workshop on “Water Pollution and Impact on Health – Economy: Policy Perspective”. Attending the seminar are the National Assembly members from the Commission of Science, Technology and Environment, Law Committee, National Assembly members representing the province of Ca Mau, managers, scientists, experts come from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Health, hospitals and universities.
The report in the workshop showed that water pollution situation in Vietnam is growing, and is affecting the health and economy of Vietnam. At the same time, there are many shortcomings, overlaps in the legal framework for water pollution control, thus, the implementation of water pollution control is difficult. Therefore, the construction of a special law on water pollution control are essential. The ideas discussed at the workshop agreed that to build a water pollution control law there has to be a specific road map. At this stage the key task of developing the Law will focus on activities such as review and evaluate the current legal documents system related to water pollution control in order to detect any problems, shortcomings; carry practical surveys on the implementation of the legal documents of water pollution control issued in recent years; study foreign experiences in developing, promulgating and enforcing legislation related to water pollution control; propose Water Pollution Control Law program on next term Parliament agenda, especially study and prepare draft law submitted to authority having jurisdiction.
The roadmap for Water Pollution Control Law has received the support and companionship of the representatives of the Commission of Science Technology and Environment and the National Assembly, Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, Vietnam Environment Administration.
