08 EXCELLENT INITIATIVES OF THE SMALL GRANTS FUND FOR GENDER EQUALITY AND WATER CONSERVATION – ADAPTING TO CLIMATE CHANGEg

On June 2, 2021, in the online training program “Strengthening the capacity on Gender and Climate Change” held by Center for Environment and Community Research (CECR), the Small Grants Fund for Gender Equality and Water Conservation Adapting to Climate Change was launched with sponsorship of UN Women and CECR. Responding to calls from donors and coordination team, representatives of several organizations sent their initiatives to the CECR’s Initiative Coordination Management.

After a period of evaluation of the submitted initiatives, the Coordination Management selected the best 08 initiatives from different provinces in Vietnam. The last quarter of 2021 was a particularly hard time because of the COVID-19 pandemic’s outbreak has been an obstacle for many community’s activities to be implemented in local areas. However, by overcoming the difficulties, 08 initiatives of the Small Grants Fund for Gender Equality and Water Conservation Adapting to Climate Change have successfully accomplished the targets and also been well received by local authorities and people. Below are the main contents and the outstanding results of these 08 initiatives:

Initiative 01: Strengthening the capacity of rural women in coastal areas in Dien Chau district, Nghe An province to access investment capital for livelihood development. Implemented by the Center for Ecological Community Development (ECODE) in Dien Chau district, Nghe An province.

Initiative 02: Transfer of clean water purification technology to women and promote the sharing of housework by men in the household. Implemented by Ben Tre Province Startup Innovation Group (STT group) in 4 hamlets of Tam Hiep commune, Binh Dai district, Ben Tre province.

Initiative 03: Model of pioneering women participating in surface water pollution monitoring in Me Tri ward, Nam Tu Liem district. Implemented by the Center for Environment and Community Development (CECoD) in Me Tri ward, district Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi.

Initiative 04: Increasing the participation of men and women in the decision-making process of investment, development, production, and application of the climate change adaptive potato growing model. Developed by the Center for Consulting, Application and Development – Science of Agriculture and Environment (KCT) in Tan Hoa commune, Vu Thu district, Thai Binh province.

Initiative 05: Building a pilot model of Inter-groups – Households – Environmental cooperatives to coordinate the classification, collection and treatment of waste at source. Implemented by the Center for Research and Development of Rural Resources in Vietnam in Vinh Gia village, Kim Song Truong commune, Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province.

Initiative 06: Support to conduct a communication session in the community on the topic “Women participate in water resource protection and response to climate change”. Organized by the Center for Science – Technology Development and Care for Yen Bai Community Health (YENBAI CDSH) in Hung Khanh commune, Tran Yen district, Yen Bai province.

Initiative 07: Establishing, equipping and enhancing capacity for disaster risk management and climate change response teams in villages in Hoa Vang district with gender mainstreaming. Implemented by the Center for Development of Community Initiative and Environment (C&E) in Hoa Nhon commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang.

Initiative 08: Raising awareness for Van Kieu people in two communes of Huong Hoa and Quang Tri districts about Gender Equality and Climate Change in agricultural production. Implemented by the Center for Sustainable Community Development (SCODE) in Vinh O commune, Vinh Linh district and Gio Hai commune, Trung Son commune in Gio Linh district (Quang Tri province) and Tan Minh commune, Muong Chieng commune in Da Bac district, Hoa Binh province.

The total number of beneficiaries from 08 initiatives is about 6036 people and 3450 households, of which 957 are direct beneficiaries (estimated 69% female and 31% male).
