Paper is a widely used material in our daily lives, but little do we know about how much paper is produced from a single tree.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Khanh, a digital expert, said: “On average, 16.67g of paper, equivalent to 8333.3 sheets of paper, could be made from a single tree. By publishing over 7 billion digital documents, we can save at least 14 billion sheets of paper and about 2000 trees.”
According to another source by Luciano Oliveira on LinkedIn, the nature of wood is a natural synthetic material of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin – a natural oil found in wood – and extracts such as fatty acid, wax, and terpenes, in which, only cellulose and hemicellulose are used as materials for paper production. A spruce tree weighs around 126kg, with 96.8kg (126×76.8%) being cellulose and hemicellulose. However, due to the loss in the pulping process, 126kg of wood will yield 71.8kg of pulp after processing, producing around 15,277 A4-sized sheets of paper (each sheet is equivalent to 4.7g).
The amount of paper produced is different depending on each type of tree. However, it is difficult to deny that digital technology is a big step for humanity and digital document has been contributing to preserving the green lungs of the Earth.
